Burned Out as a Parent? A Jeju Ocean Lunch That Helped
Zen Hideaway Jeju: Ocean-View Lunch Review
Some weekends on Jeju Island begin quietly. Ours began with a cardboard recycling project and a pan of omurice.
By the time we sat down at Zen Hideaway, facing the open sea, I had already lived a full day before noon.
A Busy Morning Before the Ocean
Recycled cars and omurice at sunrise
The island looks like a postcard, but daily family life here is the same beautiful chaos found anywhere. Meals, crafts, laundry, and negotiations never stop, even when the ocean is ten minutes away.
By late morning I needed some quiet time of my own. My secret reset?

Lunch at Zen Hideaway: Eating Beside the Jeju Sea
The view that sets the mood
The table sat beside a large window, and the sea filled the whole frame. White waves rolled in under a bright autumn sky, and for the first time that day nothing needed my immediate attention. Eating with an ocean view is one of the simplest pleasures of Jeju seaside dining, and it works better than any wellness app I have tried.
One Comment That Made Me Pause
“The most enviable post I saw today”
I shared a few photos on Threads. Among the replies, one stood out. A stranger wrote that it was the most enviable post they had seen all day, adding that the weather in autumn Jeju was simply wonderful. I replied with a quick thank-you.
But the comment stayed with me long after I put the phone down.
The guilt behind the photo
I thought about the complaints I muttered over spilled juice and unfinished homework, and about the moments I could have been more patient. Someone looking at my photo saw an ideal life. I saw a mother who had not always noticed it.
Making use of the present moment
Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote that this time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it. I carried that sentence through the rest of the day.
The present moment is not good only when the kids are quiet, the house is clean, or the weather is perfect. It is good because it is the only time we have with them at this age. A six-year-old will not stay six.
From guilt to gratitude
I did not leave the restaurant with a plan to become a perfect parent. I left with a smaller, more realistic goal: to notice more and complain less.
Tips for Visiting

Go on a clear autumn day. Fall is among the best seasons for sea views on Jeju, with crisp air and softer light.
- Ask for a window table. The view is half the experience, so request seating facing the ocean when you book or arrive.
- Bring the family, but leave the to-do list. Put your phone away after taking a photo or two. Present attention is the best souvenir.
- Do not compare your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s highlights. A beautiful photo hides a messy morning, and your messy morning is part of the beauty.
Take a stroll by the sea. The ocean view in front of the restaurant is perfect for a relaxing walk before or after your meal.
